As an athlete, you want to find the best opportunity to score for your team. Whether that is taking the open layup over the dunk or moving in closer for the shot off the glass rather than the contested three pointer. In our Shot Creators Camp athletes will focus on developing their ability to create shots and scoring opportunities for themselves and their teammates. Players will learn techniques for creating shots in 1:1 situations, full court transition, against zone defense and capitalize on mismatch opportunities. Players will also improve their basketball IQ and decision making on the court. Basketball IQ is important in the decision making on both sides of the floor. Being aware of the defense will help tremendously on where you as the ball handler want to go or where you want to make the next pass. Finding the open spot to take a jump shot or taking the extra dribble to get in the lane for the floater. The Shot Creators camp is detailed to help your athlete become a better offensive player overall.
Training Focuses:
- Shot Creating Fundamentals: Players will learn to create scoring opportunities for themselves and teammates through ball handling combinations to create space, exploiting defensive weaknesses and taking advantage of defensive mismatches. Players will also learn to use ball handling moves like the crossover, between the legs and behind the back to create space and get off a shot against even the toughest defenders. Now, we don’t always need to use flashy moves or get too creative. Most of the time the simple play will work, either a nice bounce pass or shot off the glass will work. 2 points is 2 points no matter how you get them.
- Shot Selection: Players will learn the importance of shot selection and develop their decision making ability. When to take shots, how to create space and reading the defense are keys to scoring effectively. Smart shots are the best shots and it is important for athletes to recognize when that shot is. Sometimes an easy lay up is better than the contested dunk. A midrange jumpshot is a higher percentage shot than the contested three pointer. Know your game and where your spots are at, normally the shots you work on in training.
- Offensive Awareness: Players will work on improving their court vision through drills that help identify the open man and by participating in game scenarios that require quick thinking and decision making. Basketball is a very fast paced game and takes time to get accustomed to the transitional aspect.
- Competition: Athletes will have opportunities to compete against each other, putting the skills they have learned to the test with 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 games. Prizes and awards will be given on selected games.
